Also Sony made 2.13 billion euro loss on the PlayStation 3 (but is making gradually up for it)

Sony has made no less than 2.13 billion euro loss on its game console, the PlayStation 3. The reason for this is that Sony sold it under the production price. That is a normal practice in the game industry, where the producers make especially profit on the games. Sony has spend especially much on research, by developing IBM with chips manufacturer Cell-chip. The company lost throw this way 1.39 billion euro in 2007, and 739 millions euro in 2008. Gradually, the game console starts to make profit, certainly now more copies are being sold and because it is cheaper to manufacture them.

Sony heeft maar liefst 2,13 miljard euro verlies gemaakt op zijn paradepaardje, de PlayStation 3. Het bedrijf verkocht de spelconsole immers onder de productieprijs. Dat is een normale praktijk in de gamesindustrie, waar de producenten vooral winst maken op games. Sony heeft vooral veel uitgegeven aan research, door samen met chipsfabrikant IBM de Cell-chip te ontwikkelen. Het bedrijf verloor zo 1,39 miljard euro in 2007, en 739 miljoen euro in 2008. Stilaan begint het apparaat echter richting winst te kruipen, zeker nu er meer exemplaren van worden verkocht en het goedkoper is om ze te maken.
